FAQS

  • How does Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) work?

Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) is a very gentle, repetitive massage technique moving the skin only. The goal is to improve lymph flow by opening up lymph vessels and encouraging the flow of lymph back to the heart. This should help lessen pain and edema while improving mobility. Effects will be temporary but can last up to 10 days.

  • What are some common indications for MLD?

Trauma: Concussions, fractures, hematomas, sprains, burns, whiplash

Post surgical: Total knee arthroplasty, total hip replacement, shoulder injuries, post-fracture, post plastic surgery

Edema: Lymphedema, lipedema, chronic venous insufficiency edema, traumatic edema

    Neurological: CRPS, fibromyalgia

    And many more!

  • I just had surgery, is MLD painful?

MLD is very gentle and should not be painful. If there are particularly painful areas on your body, please communicate this to your therapist so that they can adjust accordingly.

  • What should I do after my MLD session?

Fatigue, headache, and malaise can occur after a MLD massage. Please stay hydrated after your session and rest if needed.

  • How often should I receive MLD?

If you have just had surgery, your surgeon may prescribe a certain number of sessions of MLD.  Ultimately, how often you receive MLD is up to you. Time, money, and the benefits of the massage should all be considered as you decide how often to receive MLD.

  • Does the Vodder school provide evidence to support MLD?

Yes! Please go to www.vodderschool.com and look under the education centre tab to find research on MLD.

  • Why did I train to use the Vodder techniques?

I learned original MLD techniques developed by Dr. Emil Vodder from authorized instructors. There was extensive hands on training to develop proficiency in techniques. Class sizes were small allowing for individual attention. Education and techniques were evidence based.

Overview of Policies and Procedures

The first visit

What to expect.

We are located inside Well Within Wholistic Care Collective. For your safety and others, the outer door remains locked at all times. Please text/call 614-300-2381 when you arrive so that we can give you entry. Please fill out the intake form prior to your appointment time if at all possible. The appointment times are indicative of the time spent on MLD and do not include a pre and post assessment, so please allow for an additional 30 minutes when scheduling the rest of your day. Before the session, we will go over the MLD process, areas to be treated, and we will have you sign a consent form. Communication of any discomfort or concerns is expected and welcomed.

What if I need to cancel?

Cancellations, late arrivals, etc.

All appointments will require a 50% deposit at the time of booking. We currently use MassageBook.com for scheduling, and we follow their cancellation policies so please familiarize yourself with it prior to booking. Late arrivals may not receive the full time allotted based on our availability and unfortunately will not receive a discount. There are no refunds and payment is expected at time of service. If you are feeling unwell or have had recent sick contacts, please notify us immediately to cancel (no cancellation penalty occurs under these circumstances).

Zero Tolerance Policy

Expectations for appropriate behavior.

Our massage suite is a safe space for all people. Professionalism and modesty will be upheld at all times to maintain a safe and comfortable environment. Any discomfort or apprehension on your part should be communicated immediately. At any time, either party may decide to end the session voluntarily. If there is any harassment, suggestive language, or inappropriate touch toward the massage therapist, the massage will immediately end and the client will be asked to leave.
